GAUPNER ROMMEL

Price: £1,100.00 quantity:
ARTR (Almost Ready To Run)
An accurate scale model of the guided weapons destroyer operated by the Federal German Navy in 1967.
These ships were modifications of the American Charles Adams class for the Bundesmarine. Compared with the American destroyers, the three German vessels had different radio systems and guidance electronics, a modified mastarrangement and a revised location of the sonar dome under the ship. The crew quarters were also improved.
The names of the three vessels were Lütjens, Mölders and Rommel, chosen as famous and highly decorated officers of the Second World War.
The NATO code number of the Rommel is D187, which is applied in large lettering on the ship's sides for long-range identification.
In the 1970 s and 1980 s the ships armaments and fire control technology underwent a modernisation programme.
Starting in 1998 the three vessels were decommissioned one after the other, and superseded by the frigates of the F124 class.
The Rommel was broken up in Turkey in 2004.
The Mölders is currently on display as a museum ship, and can be viewed in the Wilhelmshaven Naval Museum.
A top-class, high-quality model with superb detailing.
